Clear value on validation error using custom save button

Following the blog post http://spform.com/office-365/cust ... oint-forms I am adding a Submit/Approval Button. I have a field that lets me know that it is being approved. However, what I am unsure of is how this value will be handled when a validation is hit. What I want is if a validation occurs that when he form returns tha the approval field is cleared out until they press Approve again. That way if they simply just click save it won't invoke the approval process.

The 'Approve' button works exactly as you described.
