Dear TWendt,
We've also checked the code in the IE11 and SharePoint 2013, and it works as expected: We've also included the same containers that you use, to make sure that it's not the containers that cause the issue. So far - nothing.
We have three possibilities here:
1) Scripts do not apply - please, check browsers log for errors, and you can also use browser's inspector to check out the HTML of the field to see if the scripts have applied the styles or not.
2) CSS doesn't work - maybe the page opens in IE10 compatibility mode, or something along these lines, and it prevents the styles from applying properly. Please, try a different browser, like Google Chrome.
3) Something else overwrites the styles - perhaps there are some other styles or scripts that override these ones? I do not think this is the case, most likely one of the first two is correct, but this is also a possibility.
Hope this information helps! Let me know if you find anything.
