recurring event start date lost

2013 Calendar new form only loads the event on the start day of the series. When editing the series the start date is empty on the edit form. After entering the start date on the edit form and saving, the series can be seen on the other days. The form has Start Date (internal name is EventDate) and End Date, All Day and recurrence fields on the form. I don't know where to go from here.

- Does the Start date not saving on event series creation?
- If the Start date is visible in Display view of the event?
