Your cross-site lookup column originally started out as a sandboxed wsp solution. It appears that you are migrating to an app model.

I am curious if you will continue to make the wsp version available. The WSP version is attractive because it is available on new subsites without the need to install the solution on the subsite. The same holds true for forms designer.

Hello Jeff,

Yes, we've started our products as sandbox solutions, but Microsoft doesn't allow to publish WSP-packages to Office 365 store. So, we had to rebuild them into Apps, but as for me, I'm not happy about the new model that MS has introduced instead of packages. However, we cannot support both versions, so we had to stick with Apps.

In that case. How about add to your workflow activities the ability to activate your app on a subsite.

Is there a way to use JSOM and the SP.Web.loadAndInstallApp() method of sp.js to automatically instlal the cross-site or spforms app?

Hello Jeff,

We can implement this functionality as an additional workflow activity. It will take 200 support minutes.
