refresh related items

i have a related item list on my edit form, when a user "adds a new item" a calculation is done but also triggers a workflow. If i place a custom refresh button in the related items can i use an onclick event to manually refresh that related items event. At the moment i click save, form closes and i have to go back in to view the calculation. How do i manually control the refresh rate of the list?

What do you mean by the calculation? How does the calculation work? Could you provide a screenshot of your form?
